I think the most-asked question I get is, “Where do I submit my stuff?”
In a world where hooking an agent is somewhat akin to chasing down the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, publishing short stories is a great career (and ego) boost for a writer. Duotrope currently lists more than 7,000 fiction, poetry, and nonfiction markets. And that does not include the plethora of writing contest and anthologies. There are so many opportunities to get published. Not knowing where to submit should never hold you back. [Click to Tweet] So with that said, here is a list of regularly updated newsletters, lists, and databases to help you find homes for your work.

this list is soooo comprehensive and seems amazing! I cannot wait to go through later with lots more time and comb through each list and reference ---- I tag so many sites, and places to submit almost as often as I come up with ideas to pitch or submit... the problem seems to lie somewhere between those actions and the actual DOING/pitching/ trying.... working on though day by day :) thanks so much for sharing this Tori!! Look forward to now staying in touch w/ you and your site! xxx Bee style-island.com
I'm glad you like the list! And I know the feeling. I find that it helps to have a list ready to go so that when I AM in the submitting mood, I can do it right then without hunting for places to send my stuff. I'm heading over to check out your site now. Hope you have a great week! :)
Thank you so much for putting this list together. I've been a little afraid to get back into submitting short stories. It's been awhile, and I sort of wasn't sure where to start.
I hope the list helps! Good luck submitting, and let me know how it goes. :)
I am going to take a close look at this tonight as I am unfortunately at my son's soccer game. This is great information. The one hesitation I have about submitting as my overall tone can sometimes be vulgar as I write like no one is reading. I am always so worried I will offend the judges, publishers, etc.
Hi Victoria,
Thank you so much for this amazing and comprehensive list.
I have always loved how writers help other writers - you are the epitome of that! Your tweets, your posts, your positive attitude - you have it all!
Please let me know if I can ever be of assistance to you.
Thank you again!
Michelle
Thanks hardly seems sufficient, but it's what I've got today.
