Email Clutter Be Gone!

My friends, I have a new favorite tool. It's called SaneBox, and it's right up there with Social Jukebox on my list of tools that help me keep my life together.

This app is amazing, and it is so simple. I honestly can't believe I haven't been using it for years. This is going to be a short post, just to let you know this exists—because I wish someone had told me.

I get way too many emails. Some of them require a timely response, and some of them are newsletters from writers, editors, and publications I want to keep up with. Getting notifications for each email made it difficult to concentrate, but I needed to see if something important came in.

Plus, having to sift through all my emails to catch something potentially time-sensitive was getting old. It doesn't seem like much, but those little actions and decisions add up and wear us out.

Then I discovered SaneBox.

It's so simple but so lifesaving. Here's how it works.

Sanebox connects to your email client (e.g. Gmail). It creates folders, one of which is labeled @SaneLater. The app then sifts through your old emails and gets a sense of your activity.

After SaneBox is installed, whenever you receive a non-urgent email, it will skip the inbox and drop into the @SaneLater folder. You can opt to receive a daily or weekly digest of these emails in your inbox, or you can just check them out at your convenience. No rush.

That means that all the important, urgent stuff lands straight in your inbox, with no clutter.

Automatic Unsubscribes

Another awesome features is the @SaneBlackHole folder. Have you ever tried fifty times to unsubscribe from an email list but somehow still receive messages? Just drag the unwanted email into the @SaneBlackHole folder and SaneBox will dump all future correspondence into that folder. You never see it, and it eventually goes into the trash.

Does it work?

This is the million-dollar question, and the answer is yes. SaneBox absolutely works. I've never had an important email land in the @SaneLater folder, and its ability to separate the non-urgent messages gets better with time.

If a non-urgent message is in your inbox, drag it into the @SaneLater folder. SaneBox learns and will keep similar messages out of your inbox in the future.

Not dealing with email clutter freed me up to focus on more important things, like writing and editing. Now if someone can invent an app to give me extra hours in the day, I'll be all set.
